Know Your Knits 101: Skirt, Leggings, or Lounge Pants

Think about the majority of your wardrobe. Most of us wear knitwear for comfort and ease of fit, but we avoid knits in our sewing projects. Why? Because we’ve been told that they are “hard to work with”, and that you need a serger for success. In this class, we’ll take the anxiety out of working with knits by learning the specialized notions, machine settings, presser feet, and finishing techniques for truly satisfying results.

Know Your Knits 101 is a two-part series so that we can explore and practice sewing different kinds of knits (there are SEW many!). Choosing a simple pair of leggings, lounge pants/shorts or skirt lets us focus on technique and fit without feeling rushed. You’ll also be able to experiment on a serger to see what that machine can add to your knit sewing game. But rest assured, you don’t need a serger to have success sewing knits.

Have you taken Serger 101 and/or had your serger recently serviced? This is a great class to further your serger skills! This is not the class to learn how to use your serger for the very first time :)

• Pre-requisite: You feel confident operating your machine, you know how to pin and cut fabric on grain, and have taken Beginner Sewing Series and Garment Sewing For Beginners or equivalent. Not sure? Just shoot me an email and we can discuss!

Know Your Knits 201: Tee, Tunic or Dress

Let’s take our knits know-how to the next level! In Know Your Knits 201, choose from T-shirts or T-dresses options so you can add in sleeves and ribbed/bound necklines to your bag of knit-tricks! As always, I’ve included pattern choices based on high reviews and sizing to fit every body. Students arrive with their pattern pieces pre-cut, so we can get right down to the knitty-gritty .

Have you taken Serger 101 and/or had your serger recently serviced? This is a great class to further your serger skills! Students may work on my serger for an additional $5 fee. This is not the class to learn how to use your serger for the very first time :)

If you’d like table space, sizing/pattern alteration advice, and help cutting your pieces, you can sign up for studio time prior to class at $20/hr. I’m SEW happy to help you! I’d reserve 1 hour for space and cutting, and 1.5 hours if you’d also like help with pattern alteration/grading up for a custom fit.
